The Second Wreck
Then....
We have always heard about a “second wreck” on the beach near the end of the sea wall jutting out from the end of Shipwreck, but once again we have the proof (earlier photos can also be found on the history page, "The Other Wreck"). We thank Andy Putney for sharing a few family shots with us of his mother Ruth Putney who happened to be standing beside the skeleton remains of “the second ship”. Ruth, a long time resident of the Billoview at the corner of Bayview and Vesper, has since passed away, but the pictures taken that day document the wreck and provide a way of establishing its position on the beach.
In the photo below, you can see the hull remains projecting from the sand just beyond the last sea wall on Shipwreck.
The photo below offers dramatic proof that yes, in fact, this is not the wreck that we commonly refer to.
Now......
The area is totally covered by sand and sea grass at the moment, so somewhere beneath this lies the second wreck.
